Landlord & Tenant

Evans and Co. has been practicing Landlord and Tenant Law successfully for a quarter of a century. This is a very exciting area of law and has expanded over the years due to the robustness of the Bahamian economy and the willingness to invest in the construction of cottages, town houses, condominium and commercial buildings and other rental properties.

Landlord and Tenant Law is a part of the common law system that deals with the rights and duties of the landlord and the tenant as against each other.

The Landlord and Tenant relationship is essentially a contractual one, but it nevertheless gives the tenant an interest in the land for the duration of the lease or tenancy. Landlord and Tenant Law may become a quite contentious area of law due, in large part to the failure of most tenants to seek proper legal advice at the beginning of the relationship.

Evans & Co. has represented many clients both landlords and tenants in the following aspects of this area of law:
  • Negotiation of Lease Agreements
  • Drafting of Commercial and Retail Lease Agreements
  • Advising Tenants on their legal rights
  • Advising Landlords on their legal rights
  • Securing Confiscated Deposits
  • Overdue Rent Matters
  • Eviction proceedings
Ms. Veronique Evans is the attorney who is responsible for advising on Bahamian Landlord and Tenant Law. She is assisted by Mr. Gladstone Brown, Jr.
